I would like to thank all of the Rock Your Repaired Amp enthusiasts for sharing your support with Yosi Mesbah; her tour is now in full flight. RYRA became a small part of this journey when the ray of sun that is Cellar and Sky, Yosi’s debut album, cut through the gloominess of the Facebook newsfeed. Yosi is carving her own space in this difficult environment that the music industry has become. I could empathize being a one person business, and I felt a sense of kinship. My struggle is not the only one. For a brief moment, I could partake in another person’s difficulties and we could rise above together. I invited her tour to this humble city and, on a whim, to stay with me and my family. During the five days Yosi and her sister, Layli, were here, we laughed, ate, saw the sights, and enjoyed the gift of music. She was well received in all the venues at which she played: the local Public Radio station, a house concert, a songwriter-in-the-round event, a coffee shop, and two church services. Her music was right at home in each diverse setting, and many return invitations were extended-including mine! It must be said: the gift was all mine. I thought I was helping another, yet I helped myself to the deliciousness of intimate, honest, friendship. A burden I carry away as this has all come to an end. A picture is worth a thousand words, a song a thousand pictures. With the listening of Cellar and Sky come the recurrent images of past experiences. Pictures we can all recount. How do I separate this album from Yosi when for me they are one and the same: an experience that has amplified an already potent piece of work.
